I haven't posted in a LONG time! It's probably due to the fact that I've been extremely busy lately.

I'm in my last year as a Buckeye and I've realized that I've accomplished things that I've never even dreamed of. For example, what are the chances of me being president of a student organization at a school with over 50,000 students?

I am president of Leaders in Family and Consumer Sciences Education (LFCSE) here at Ohio State. This summer I have been working on ways to increase membership and market our program to the student body. For the first time ever, our organization will be participating in the Student Involvement Fair on the Oval. Flyers, give-aways, and decorations are in the process.

When I entered the Family and Consumer Sciences Education program, I noticed a flaw. This flaw was the lack of FCCLA (formerly FHA) knowledge being presented to future FCS teachers. These FCS students are graduating from Ohio State with minimal information about the organization and are expected to take over as FCCLA advisers in their schools. As president of LFCSE, I decided to make it my goal to make sure that my fellow classmates left Ohio State with the knowledge and confidence to take over their own chapter someday.

Right now the officers and I are in the planning stages of organizing a FCCLA Workshop in October. The National FCCLA president and his adviser will conduct one session, the Ohio FCCLA president will conduct the other.

In addition to organizing a program for FCCLA, I also gave advice on the FCCLA portion of FCS ED 640 course with the instructor.

Who would have thought that a small town girl who attended a regional campus would end up leaving her mark at Ohio State by making improvements in her major. As Walt Disney once said, ""All our dreams can come true --if we have the courage to pursue them." Therefore, don't be afraid to take chances. Never be afraid to do something new. And most importantly, never give up. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the titanic.

My Winter Quarter!

Winter Quarter = Most time consuming quarter ever! Here's what I've been up to:

Human Nutrition 314-->I'm in class with pre-med, med, or medical dietetics majors. We learn about the chemical and physical aspects to food preparation and use. Every Wednesday afternoon, I have a food lab. In the labs we conduct experimentations. For example, in last week's lab, we made custards using 2 yolks, 2 whites, 2 eggs, 1 egg, 2 tbsp sugar, or 1/4 sugar. We then determined which variation made the stable/least stable custard, best looking/worst looking custard, best/worst tasting custard, etc. We also compared the results of fresh custard with frozen custard. I love participating in the labs, but I hate studying for the midterms because I have to memorize numerous amounts of materials.

Education 306.07 --> I have an awesome lecturer for this class. Definitely enjoy being in her class. We are learning about the history of education, the different education philosophers and their theories/philosophies, the roles of the school board, principal, superitendent, state board of education, etc, and all the legal aspects of education ranging from teacher's rights to student's rights to separate of school and church.

Family Resource Management 260 --> I'm taking this class online. I turn in homework and take a quiz every week. I've been learning about financial planning, real estate buying, investments, credit cards, taxes, etc. Since the class is online, I defintely have to make sure to read all the chapters in the textbook. :(

Family and Consumer Sciences Education 289 --> Field Experience for my education major. I am currrently observing Kilbourne Middle School 8th grade FCS classes. Last Thursday, I conducted my very first lesson plan. My professor was also there to evaluate my performance. :S I have many observation assignments and teaching logs to turn in by the end of the quarter.

OSU Cancelled Classes??? Ohio State Lima and Columbus campuses were both closed on Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb 13-14). Former Ohio State Lima students from Putnam, Auglaize, and Hardin county areas were extremely bored during these two snow days in Columbus. They didn't have their snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, tractors, sleds, etc to play with, so they got a little creative. They went shopping for sleds at local retail stores, but they were all sold out. So they decided to buy storage containers with lids. A Putnam county girl had a tow rope in the trunk of her car and a Logan county kid had his Chevy pickup truck. Containers + Tow Rope + Truck = hours of entertainment sledding around a Columbus apartment complex. By the end of the afternoon, many apartment residents stood outside their doors to watch and take pictures of these small town kids having a little fun in the big city.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://brutusbuckeye.blogspot.com/2007/02/osu-cancelled-classes-what.html' title='OSU Cancelled Classes??? Holy Cow! There are a lot of lights. It had to take them a couple months just to put them up. There was a Polar Express model train display, we got to visit Santa, make cookies with Mrs. Claus, and ice skate!!! I was highly disappointed that the monkeys left for the winter, so the only thing close to a monkey was a statue. :( But don't worry....the funny elephants are still roaming around!

What I Miss About OSU-LIMA (10/10/06)

Well...I've been in Columbus for over a month now. My job at the Official Team Shop is going well. I love to see familiar Lima faces come into the store. One person that came into the store was Dr. Ackerman. It was great to see him again. When he left, my co-workers asked me how I knew my professor on such a personal level. They were surprised that he even knew my name! That's one of the things that I miss about OSU-Lima. Your professors actually know your name. In Lima, your professor will be able to tell whether or not you weren't in class. When you have a question on homework and other assignments, you could easily visit your professor's office in Lima and communicate with them.

Summer is Ending!

My summertime was filled with lots of friends and good times. Here's some of the things I did:

~Botkins Carousel: Danger Brothers concert. Awesome! Check them out at the Hineygate sometime.
~Maria Stein Countryfest: Free Rider concert. Totally Insane! The crowd was out of control! Tractor Square Dancing = The most amazing thing! Yes...the people that live only 2 miles away from me know how to make their tractors dance. ;)
~OBM Fireworks: I was sitting on a roof in Botkins watching those.
~New Knoxville Picnic/Fireworks: My heel broke, so I walked around like a barefooted hillbilly child.
~Indian Lake: Spent some of my summer nights at the 7 bedroom lake house. Went swimming, boating, tubing, partying, and more!
~Auglaize Cty Fair: Partied behind the Auglaize Cty Jail. Ha! Got thrown into a hillbilly hot tub that my friends invented.
~Shack Anniversary: Decided to climb the roof and sit up there on a lawn chair. And then more people came up, so we all partied on the roof!
~Relay For Life: Was in charge of activities under the Kids Entertainment Tent. I was the crazy one dancing around and singing at about 3AM.

Right now I am packing and getting ready to move to Columbus over Labor Day weekend! I will be working at the Official Team Shop in the Schottenstein Center starting Sept 2nd! I can't wait! Make sure to stop by and say hello to me sometime!

THANKS OSU-LIMA!

Well, it's the morning of finals! When I woke up this morning, I realized something. This is my last day of class EVER at OSU-Lima. It's actually pretty sad. I feel like a senior in high school all over again. I won't get to see all the great professors (Ackerman, Nimps, Recker, Sutton-Ramspeck) anymore and I'll be leaving behind some of the greatest people I've met when I move on to Columbus. I will definitely miss the admissions office staff though! I've had tons of fun working with them. Leaving OSU-Lima means no more ultimate frisbee during the lunch break, no more karaoking in the courtyard, no more messenging the person sitting next to you in the Galvin computer lab, no more tailgating trips to football games, no more crazy volleyball classes, no more random trips to wal-mart, and tons more! My two years at OSU-Lima have flown by so fast! It's like the old saying, "Time flies when you're having fun." It's going to be hard to replace all the friendly and helpful Lima students and staff. I hope that I meet people like them in Columbus.

THANKS OSU-LIMA FOR MAKING MY FIRST TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE MEMORABLE!

I'LL MISS YOU ALL!!

Jim Tressel Night

Last week, Jim Tressel came to the Civic Center for the "Spring for Scholarships" Dinner and Auction as the special guest. I arrived at the Civic Center at 4:00PM to help set things up. When people started arriving, my job was to socialize with everyone. While wandering the hallway, somone touched my shoulder and said "excuse me, miss." I turned around to see Jim Tressel! (side note: He's not very tall!) While Tressel was signing autographs and taking pictures, I was down at the entrance of the ballroom being the doorman. Haha. I jokingly told people that I was the bodyguard and that I was keeping the Michigan people out. During the dinner, Jim Tressel spoke to us for like 45 minutes! Even though he talked more than his allotted time, I learned a lot about himself and the team. Did you know that Tressel's grandparents lived in little ol' Ada, OH? And did you know that young Jim Tressel dreamed of someday being Ohio Northern University's football coach? Overall, it was an unbelievable event that will always be remembered.

A quote from Tressel that night was "Nothing good happens past ten" Well, I guess Dean would have to agree with that! After the Tressel night, we decided to go to Westgate Lanes to bowl. Dean didn't think that I would be able to bowl in a skirt. Hmm...he was wrong! I ended up beating him by 86 points with a score of 194. I have no idea how I pulled that one off...maybe it was the skirt. ;)

Notes from Cody (05/17/06)

Hello readers, as usual, it’s been a long time!

Last time I posted I was within a few days of my big European vacation and now it’s long gone. It was a blast, during my stay I learned a lot about myself and the world. To make a long story short...Italy completely blew my mind! The people were great and their customs were amazing. Everyone was so laid back and friendly! I took a hundreds of pictures and have so many memories that I’m sure will stay with me my entire life. I've craved REAL Italian food and wine so bad ever since I stepped back onto American soil!

If you ever get a chance to travel abroad, do it! It’s scary to leave and it’s not cheap but trust me, it’s worth it! I visited Rome, Venice, Verona, Florence, Chinqa Terra, San Gimingminana, Piza and several other small towns. My trip has definatly made my decision that at some point in my education I'm studying aborad.

The picture to the right is a picture of myself with Juliette in Verona Italy. In our tour we were informed that the story of Romeo and Juliette might have originated here. Along with that statue there is a balcony that is very significant. And if you're wondernig why I am groping that statue it's because it's said that if you touch her breast you'll find true love and happiness. I wasn't the only one! Everyone was doing it! I swear! Anyways, enough about Italy, I'm starting to really miss it!

It's time to get to business!

I just can’t get over how time flies!

I’m sure if you’re in the class of ’06 you understand exactly what I’m saying!

Some of you are almost done with a HUGE chapter of your life and I’ve almost got a full year of college under my belt! And for those of you ending that chapter, don’t worry, college is amazing. I was so scared about life after high school but now that I’ve spent time in a university setting, I can’t see myself anywhere else.

Classes are going well despite missing the first 3 weeks. I’m taking History 151, Theatre 626 and University Chorus. I’m only half-time which helps but it’s still been a struggle to catch up but I’m managing. Unfortunately, due to being less than full time I’m unable to make the Dean’s list again but I’ll manage. It’s not the end of the world.

Well, I just felt like stopping in and updating a little!

Feel free to leave comments and such, I’d enjoy hearing from you!

Off to homework I go!
Cody

May Fun!

Every May, OSU-LIMA has a party in the coutryard. It's a two day event. This year it was held on May 2 and 3 (Tues and Wed). Due to rain, Tuesdays activities were moved to the gym. But Wednesday the weather was beautiful! I attended Wednesday's events. Dean, Tommy, and I participated in the radar pitch game. I found out that I can throw 48 mph. We then got 6 people together and took a picture on the big inflatable chair. The Pysch Club was sponsoring "Pie a Professor!" which was hilarious. In fact, the dean came out to get pied too! However, the most exciting event that I participated in was the TOILET RACES. Haha. My friends and I had a lot of fun racing our potties! (I won by the way...sorry Dean)

Classes, Scholarships, etc.

Well, my classes are going okay. I ended up dropping my English class during the 5th week for certain reasons. Turns out that it was probably better for me. I have more available options to complete my second level writing course in Columbus next year. My other classes are going great. I really love my volleyball class. It's great for stress! Haha.

Earlier in the year, I applied for the Human Ecology scholarships. Sunday, I was invited to attend the "Celebration of Excellence" banquet for the College of Human Ecology in Columbus. At the banquet, I ended up receiving a $1200 scholarship. That will definitely help me out next year.

The nice part about the banquet was that I was seated with some colleagues in my major, so I got to know some of the girls that I will be taking classes with for the next two years. The professor for my major also talked to me. It was really nice to meet and greet with all of them.

Besides getting a scholarship, I was also informed that I was nominated for membership into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). I'll be attending the induction ceremony in the fall.

OSU Spring Game!

OSU Lima organized a trip to the Scarlet and Gray Spring Football Game on April 22nd. We met at the Lima campus around 9:30AM and then headed to Columbus. I decided to follow the charter bus to the game since I wanted to stay in Columbus longer. Dean, Mali, and Cody rode along with me. Our car ride was hilarious. We were jamming to some good buckeye music, passing Divya's car a thousand times, and pretty much laughing at everything Dean did.

I really enjoyed watching the game. I was rooting for Todd Boeckman and Ross Homan. Todd Boeckman is the back up back up quarterback right now, and he got to see a lot of playing time during the spring game. Todd is from St. Henry, which is about 20 minutes away from where I live. His high school was in the same conference as mine. Ross Homan is a freshman linebacker and I think he has the potential to start in the fall. He is from Coldwater, which is also another high school in my conference. As you can tell, I really love my Buckeye football. I'm a sports nut!

After the game, we ended up running into the Buckeyeman! The whole Lima crew got to take a picture with him.

Unfortunately, Dean, Mali, and Cody decided not to stay in Columbus with me. They took the charter bus back to Lima, but I had fun without them! I had the opportunity to visit and party with people that I haven't seen in a long time. Overall, it was a memorable day!

Cheryl's April Fool's Night!

So far April has started off with 100% FUN!! My friends decided to celebrate my 20th birthday on April 1st at the New Bremen bowling alley. We were reflecting on the gool ol' days of 4-H Camp, and we started talking about the one time they offered swing dance lessons. So, we decided to see how much we still remembered by dancing in between the tables. Haha. A little while later, I was sitting by the bar talking to some people when all of a sudden I turned around and saw Michael down on one knee. He was holding out a purple ring and sweetly asked "Miss Cheryl Dircksen...will you marry me?" I was in complete shock, and started laughing so hard that I fell off the bar stool. I don't even think that I replied with a "yes" or a "no." I think I just gave him my left hand so that he could put it on. Then all my friends went along with the joke by applauding and congratulating us. We actually fooled the entire bowling alley. They honestly thought that it was a real proposal. I had lots of random people congratulating me and wanting to see the ring, and well...I didn't have the ring anymore! I gave it back to the girl it belonged to, so we put my class ring on my left hand instead.

Notes from Cheryl (3/26/2006)

Well....it's the finals hours of SPRING BREAK! :( Overall, I would describe my break as a rollercoaster. It had it's ups and downs and crazy twists, but now it's time to get off the ride and hit the books again.

Books...yep...that's a scary word. I have to buy my books tomorrow, which means a hole in my checking account. I checked the bookstore's website to see how much I might be spending. If I have to buy all NEW books, I'll be spending close to $300.00. Yikes! My two finals were last Wednesday and they went alright. I had trouble finding motivation to start studying which ultimately led to one really late night and a stressful morning.

Looking back, I wish I would have been as ambitious and dedicated as I had planned in my last blog - but - the little studying I did proved to be enough. I made the Dean’s List again but the days following the finals were excruciatingly tense because of my uncertainty. By not being adequately prepared for finals I was left hanging. Being the internet junkie that I am, I think I checked my grades every 30 minutes for three days. Fortunately, everything worked out and I’m still above that all-important 3.5 GPA.

As always, now that I’ve got the business aspect of blogging out of the way I can move to the most important and enjoyable aspect of being a college student...break!

Being my first Spring Break I had no idea what to expect and to be truthful I still don’t but I can say that it’s been amazing. The mixture of the majority of my friends being home and no reason to wake up before noon has made this a great week! I can’t remember ever laughing as much as I have this week! There is also an Ohio State Lima bowling outing in the works which I am really excited about. Some friends and I are collaborating to pull a bunch of people together to have a good time with some current classmates. Being a commuter campus there isn’t as much of an opportunity to get to know those around you but that barrier can easily be broken down by a little initiative. Gas prices might be expensive and irritating when driving to class but I’d pay $3.00 a gallon to go have fun with people from campus any day!

Anyways, this is getting lengthy so I must be going. I am going to attempt to stop in once or twice before I leave for Italy so check back! I might even stop in while I’m overseas if I get a chance!

Until next time!Cody

Notes from Cheryl (3/20/2006)

Well..it's SPRING BREAK!!!! And no...I'm not in Florida or California or any place warm. None of my other friends are taking any spring break trips either. Everyone is returning home and working because we are all a bunch of poor college students. Haha.

This past weekend was craziness! Friday was St. Patrick's Day!! I wore green beads, a green sweater, a green belt, and I painted my nails green. When I got to the party, John was sitting on the kitchen counter while his buddies were cutting napkins with their pocket knives and putting it on his bleeding knee and then wrapping it with duct tape. (yep...definitely a hillbilly thing to do!) Apparently John was running around the truck and his knee hit the license plate. I told him that he needed to go to the emergency room. 5 hours later, it's still bleeding. That's when John decided that maybe he should go to the ER. At about 2Am, John got 6 stitches.

Saturday night, I was out at the SHACK in Botkins. Brandon came with a truck load of wood and the guys decided to burn all of it in one night. Our campfire turned into a bonfire and you could see the orange glow all the way from the interstate! We were afraid that someone would call 911 and the Botkins Fire Department would show up. Haha.

Sunday was a very depressing day. I watched the Buckeyes lose against Georgetown. I just can't believe that no one from the Big Ten made the Sweet 16! That really screwed up my bracket. I had the Buckeyes winning the tournament over Iowa. Gosh Darn!

Notes from Cheryl (3/12/2006)

My life continues to be full of craziness! I got about 4 hours of sleep Friday night, grabbed a cappuccino, and dashed out the door before 7AM to head up to Bellefontaine, Ohio to judge parliamentary procedure at the FCCLA Regional Rally. At the 8AM judges meeting, I sat next to a very interesting man. During my conversation with the man, he showed me a picture and asked me if I knew who it was. I told him that it was the Buckeyeman. He then asked me if I’ve ever met the guy and I told him no. He then extended his hand I said “Hi. I’m Larry Lokai, the Buckeyeman.” He then handed me his Buckeyeman business card. I told him that OSU-Lima is planning a trip down to the spring football game, and he told me to drop him a line when we come down.

After I was done judging and sent Ridgemont FCCLA’s parli pro team to state, I went to Colony Square Apartments in Columbus. I checked out the apartments again, and then paid part of my security deposit. After handing Craig my $100 deposit, he handed me the pool key. He told me to stop by anytime this summer to use the pool even though I won’t be moving in until September.

Notes from Cheryl (3/7/2006)

Wow! My life is just full of craziness! Hehe.

Last Wednesday, a friend and I got all dressed up and went to the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, OH to watch the musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie." It was a great evening. I returned home after midnight, and thought to myself "Hmm...maybe I shouldn't have gone out tonight." I unfortunately still had to study for my classical mythology and theatre final exams! I got about 4 hours of sleep and then headed up to college for my 10:20AM Theatre exam. I was pretty much a walking zombie on campus. I had to go buy a cappuccino to help wake me up, and I ended up spilling some of it on me in class. Oops! After my theatre exam, I started studying for mythology. I only studied mythology for about an hour and then I went and took that exam too. And then I went home and went to bed. Haha.

My weekend was pretty good too. I went to a party and the guys decided to crowd surf me! Haha. It was pretty scary. I felt like a ball getting tossed around the room! I also had a good time at Wendy's in New Bremen on Sunday night too. I do believe that we walked through the drive-thru to order our food. Haha. It's a good thing that we knew the people working inside though.

(the picture is from one of the parties I attended over the weekend)

Profile Picture!

Cheryl and I (Cody) finally got around to getting a picture together! It’s amazing how time flies, this whole quarter has been a blur for me. It seems like classes just started but finals start in one week!

This quarter I will have 2 comprehensive exams and one concert. The tests are in Math and Literature and the concert is for University Chorus. Luckily my fourth class this quarter, Theatre 100, does not have a final which is amazing because that will be one less thing to prepare for.

I’m not too worried about finals though, I know they won’t be easy but I also know that I paid attention in class and took decent notes. Plus, I’ve already started to study so that will help a lot. Getting an early start might not be the coolest thing to do but I had some free time today and instead of wasting my time watching television I busted out my English notes.

I’m aiming for the Dean’s list again so I’m hoping my extra work will pay off!

Now I’ll move on to the important thing...SPRING BREAK! I’m extremely ready to finish this quarter/season so I can have a break! I’m ready for some time off and I’m even more ready for shorts and flip-flops instead of jeans and sweatshirts!

My inaugural Spring Break will consist of a week of random nothingness and a trip to Europe. I’ll be spending two weeks in Vicenza, Italy which is about 3 hours north of Rome. I’m hoping to trek through Italy and experience the different culture. I’m really looking forward to it! I’m sure I’ll have plenty of pictures and stories when I come back!

Because of my trip I will have an extra long Spring Break that starts Wednesday, March 15th and goes until mid April. My break will stretch into the 2nd or 3rd week of class because of my trip. What that means is that I’ll have to do 2 or 3 weeks of classes on my own in Italy. I’m hoping that my little excursion will be well worth the catch-up effort. I hope I can pull it off so I can do well in class and not let the professors down that so generously agreed to work with me!

Anyways, I must be going! Thanks for stopping by!

Cody

Notes from Cheryl (2/22/2006)

Wow...today was such a busy day!

I worked from 9AM-6PM at the daycare center and then I had CPR training from 6:00-9:30PM. I was trained in both pediatric and adult CPR and AED. My first try at the CPR thing was quite comical. Most of the time I was being too gentle with the dummy and not tilting the head back far enough, or not blowing in enough air to make the chest rise. I think the hardest one to do was the little infant dummy. I also learned how to use one of those electric pad things where you say "CLEAR!"

After CPR training, I went home and scheduled for my spring quarter classes online. As of right now, I am planning on taking Spanish 150, Family Resource Management 243, English 367.04, and Edu Paes 191.01 (Volleyball). I am going to go and schedule an appointment with my advisor, Karen Meyer, to make sure that I'm still on track for my major.

By tomorrow morning at 10:20am, I should have Twilight L.A. read for Theatre 100. I started reading it the other day and found it to be completing boring. I also tried reading it today during my hour lunch break. And let's see....it's past 11PM, and I still have about 150 pages left to read, yet I've chosen to blog and emails friends instead. Oops! Well, MAYBE the book will be finished by 10:20Am...we'll just have to see.

Notes from Cody (02/21/06)

Wow, it’s been quite awhile since I wrote in here! Autumn quarter has come and gone and we’re now approaching the end of Winter quarter! I can’t believe that college is going so fast!

To catch you up on my past few months I’ll start off by saying that classes went really well. I made the Dean’s list which is something I’m very proud of. A lot of people were surprised to find out that I could pull it off because I was such a slacker in high school but it just goes to show you that hard work pays off! The best part of it is that I worked hard/did well and still had a good time! There are so many familiar faces on campus now and some of the friend I have are awesome!

Another cool thing about last quarter is that the stuff I learned is coming in handy. I learned how to write better papers in English 110, and the information from Psychology is surprisingly useful in my Theatre and Literature classes.

This quarter I’m taking English 290, Math 104, Theatre 100 and University Chorus. This quarter is a little more challenging but having a quarter of experience I know how much work it takes to be successful.

Here is a little information about my classes this quarter:

- Math 104 is a basic college algebra class that meets Monday through Thursday from 9:10 -10:10. As you can probably guess it’s focus is on algebra but in contrast to my high school math classes it’s very calculator oriented which is nice. Instead of working a problem by hand for 20 minutes we learn how to utilize the functions on the almighty TI-83 calculator and solve problems more quickly.

- English 290 is the Literature class I mentioned earlier, it’s focus is on American literature through 1877. We meet twice a week (Mon. and Wed.) from 10:20 - 12:08. We started out with native American narratives and we have worked our way through history. Tomorrow we will be starting a section about Edgar Allen Poe and I’m really looking forward to it. This class is my toughest class to date. Instead of memorizing and regurgitating we are asked to examine and understand, it’s difficult but interesting.

- Theatre 100 is probably my favorite class this quarter. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:20 to 12:20 and we study everything related to theatre. We have studied the history of Greek theatre, the genres, the famous people and their jobs; we’ve looked at theatre from what seems like every angle possible! I didn’t realize how complex a show is. The other cool thing about it is that I have it with Cheryl, the other/better blogger. The class is cool but I don’t know what I’d do without her, 2 hours is a long time and we help each other through it.

- And finally I come to University Chorus. It’s a great way to meet people and it’s so much more fun to sing instead of writing research papers and taking tests. This quarter I’m more confident and I feel like I’m making up for the ground I lost by not participating in high school choir my senior year.

Being the 8th week of class we’re pretty heavy into it! I’m dreading my second round of finals but like I said earlier, I know what to expect this time around and I know to start preparing even earlier!

Anyways, I must be going! Haha. Even though the lectures may sometimes be a snore, the people in my class are hilarious. We're always having interesting conversations before and during our break in my little section of the room. Most of the time, we talk about other classes, what we did over the weekend, and what we will be doing on the weekend. Cody (who is also suppose to be blogging on here) and I have learned a lot about each other this quarter and we've definitely increased our friendship. Before Theatre, I didn't know much about him. I just knew that he was a student assistant with me and we tailgated to an Ohio State football game together. Cody sent me this email message the other day: "Cheryl...you crack me up...lol I'm glad I met you and took Theatre with you, you're making my college experience a little more enjoyable...Too bad you're moving to Columbus!"

Have a great day and Go Bucks!

Notes from Cheryl (2/15/2006)

I really enjoy taking HDFS 360, which is a good thing since I have an education major.

From talking to my professor and learning the materials in class, I'm actually pretty excited about getting farther and farther into my major. When I first started college, I thought that the only thing I could do with my FCS education major was become a teacher. However, I've learned that I can take my major into all sorts of directions!

My HDFS class will also count towards my job. As a daycare teacher, I have to have a certain amount of child development hours per year. I absolutely love working at the daycare center in Anna, OH. There is never a dull moment! Those kids are always saying the darnest things. For example: In the toddler room, Boy #1 take Girl's toy. Girl starts crying. Boy #2 approaches Boy #1, yells at him, takes the toy, and gives it back to Girl. Boy #2 hugs Girl and walks off with her. The toddler teachers begin to tease Boy #2 and ask him "Aww...who's your girlfriend?" His reply....."MISS CHERYL!" Gotta Love 'Em! ;)

Notes from Cheryl (2/2/2006)

I took my first midterms in all my classes. HDFS 360 had multiple choice, true/false, and an essay question. Theatre 100 had matching, multiple choice, short answers, and an essay. Classics 222 was five short essays. I thought HDFS 360 would be based on common sense and from my handouts, but I was wrong. There was a lot of questions from inside the text book. The essay was also devastating. I had to name all eight of the family theories and give the definitions for them all and point out the theory's weaknesses and strengths. I was then given a situation and I had to explain how all eight of the family theories applied to it. Sounds hard, eh? That's what I thought! I was expecting something like "What is your definition of a family?" or something similar to that. Theatre 100 was a pretty good exam, but Classics 222 was not so good. My professor gave us a one hour time limit to write up five essays. Needless to say, I wrote so fast my hand hurt and I was still finishing up writing when he said "Ok...time's up." I hate being rushed!

We now have a Lima Campus newspaper! The very first edition came out earlier this week. The paper is called the University Independent and the articles are written by the students. The January 2006 paper covered topics like smoking, rennovations to Reed Hall, Facebook, how to make your own beer, and the theatre department's upcoming played called "Slyvia."

Well, this weekend I am going sking at Mad River Mountain. It's College Day on Saturday.! If you bring your College I.D. with you (my Buck I.D. card), you will get 50% off your ski lift. I'm so excited. I'm still rallying up a big group of friends to head on over to the slopes. We might even spend the night at a cottage around Indian Lake instead of making the long trip back home. I can't wait!

Notes from Cheryl (1/24/05)

I am about 1/3 of the way through winter quarter. (woo-hoo!) Theatre 100 is going great. We've been reading plays and discussing theatre concepts. Today in class we watched 3 different segments of a scene from Hamlet to show how playwrighters make their adaptations of the same play.

Last week, my HDFS class was interesting. Tuesday, we had a guest speaker come in to talk to us about diversity and how us future educators can deal with these differences. On Thursday, we had another guest speaker. This speaker was from the health department and talked to us about sex.

Classical mythology is very interesting. I learned about how Father Sky and Mother Earth mated. We also learned about the tales of Zeus and his siblings who are the Olympians. And last week we learned about Oedipus and how he killed his father and married his mother.

This weekend, I went down to Columbus to look for apartments. I ran across some pretty shady areas. Places that were unclean and looked like they were going to fall apart. Some of the neighborhoods were a little creepy too. In the end, I kind of wished that I could just stay at home and finish my major in Lima. I would definitely feel safer here! Unfortunately, I have a major that can not be completed at Lima. (Darn!)

Well, I need to head off to my mythology class....I wonder what tale I will hear today!

Notes from CHERYL!

On Tuesday, the Lima campus had a Martin Luther King Jr. presentation in the theatre. Bryan Barrows presented "Who is MLK?" It was a pretty good one man show. In the show, he portrays an old man who is appalled to learn that his grandson didn't know who MLK was, so he decided to tell his grandson all about the civil rights movement in the '60s. He discussed the Jim Crow Laws, Rosa Parks, the Montgomery bus boycott, MLK's "I have a Dream" speech, and more. To sum it all up, it was pretty good narrative history lecture. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the end of the show because I had to get to my mythology class.

Notes from Cheryl

Oh wow....I haven't blogged in a month! I'm taking Theatre 100, Classical Mythology 222, and HDFS 360. Cody is in my theatre class! Hehe. I'll let you know what I think of my courses in a later blog.

Winter break went by soo fast! Let's see...I worked full-time at the daycare, finished my duties as the Auglaize County Junior Fair Board President, went to x-mas parties, birthday parties, movie nights, bowling nights, new year's eve parties, and of course a fiesta bowl party! Watching the Buckeyes win on a 24 x 26 foot screen in the loft of a barn is pretty sweet.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and I also hope that you have a great 2006 year!

Notes from Cheryl (11/29/05)

Thanksgiving Break was a blast! Everyone was home for the holidays! Wednesday night I went to the Ranch with some friends and had a good ol' time dancing. Thursday I was with my relatives all day and did some late night Wal-mart shopping with my favorite girl cousins. Friday was a zoo. Shopping was insane! It was like a mad rush for everything, plus half the stuff on my list of things to get were already sold out! Friday and Saturday night I hung out with more friends that came home, and Sunday was dedicated to writing my 5 page nutrition class report and studying for my sociology midterm #3.

I am a little disappointed that I didn't get to see all my friends that came home for the holidays, but I'll get to see them all real soon. In fact, this is my last week of Autumn Quarter. Actually, I ended up calling it quits Saturday night around midnight cause the 4 1/2 hours of sleep that I got the night before was starting to catch up to me. Hehe. And by the way, I really enjoyed the lawn decorations in my yard when I woke up Sunday morning. If anybody is missing a "____ for School Board" or "____ for township trustee" sign, it was probably one of the many signs that was in my yard! I'm still trying to figure out which one(s) of my GREAT friends (haha) decided to do this to me, so if you know who it was, let me know!

Anyway...Do you know what week it is??? It's BEAT M!CH!G@N WEEK!!!! Columbus has some great events going on throughout the week. Check out http://www.ohiounion.com/bmw They have blood drives going on, a HUGE pillow fight, a "Wing the Wolverines" contest, a flag football tournament and more! But don't worry. Lima is participating in the Michigan Week fun. The Student Senate here at the Lima Campus is hosting a OSU/Michigan party on Saturday!

Notes from Cheryl (11/9/05)

Today is a very nerve-wrecking day. I've decided to blog to try to reduce my stress. Haha. I have a Chemistry midterm in like an hour and I have all these equations and formulas getting all mixed up in my brain plus on the vocabulary terms.

Besides Chemistry being on my mind, I get to schedule for next quarter's classes tonight and I checked the course availability for the classes I want to take and I'm a little worried. One of the classes I want to take has only one seat left and another one only has like 3 seats left, so I might end up on the waiting list, which will suck.

This past weekend was awesome though. I went down to Columbus to tailgate. Cody, the other student who blogs, went down there too. It was tons of fun! I met up with some other former OSU Lima students.

Well, I unfortunately need to study some more. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good day and not a bad one. Bye!

Notes from Cody (11/07/05)

Greetings everyone,

I'd like to start off by saying that this past weekend was one of the best times I've ever had. And believe it or not, it actually came because of school.

Somebody had the GREAT idea to give Lima students an opportunity to head to Columbus to tailgate for the OSU Vs. Illinois game. There were like 25 of us all together and the trip served as a great opportunity to get to know classmates and have a good time!

The trip there felt like it only took 5 minutes because we were having so much fun. Everything went very well plus transportation and food was free (which made it EVEN better...lol)

Before the game we attended the Ohio State Skull session which was mind-blowing. We joined thousands of fellow Buckeyes in St. Johns Arena and I got my first taste of live Ohio State marching band. It was like a massive pep rally but with an awesome band!

After the skull session we went to the Longaberger Alumni House and watched the game on a huge projector and had a good time.

The weekend was simply amazing! I met a lot of new people, made a lot of friends and came to appreciate Ohio State Lima even more. For a long time I thought that being at a regional campus sacrificed the experience, but this weekend made me realize that I was just overlooking opportunities and overlooking the fact that there are tons of cool people floating around this place!

By the way, in the picture I'm on the far right with my fist in the air...lol

Anyways, I must stop reminiscing and get back to my homework!

Thanks for stopping by!
Cody

Notes from Cody (11/4/05)

Wow, it’s been forever since I’ve managed to stop by and make an entry!

I’ve spent the past few weeks with my nose in a book but finally I found a chunk of free time, which is great!

My classes are going well, English 110 is proving to be pretty intensive but practice makes perfect, I guess...lol Right now we’re focusing on argumentative essays which makes for interesting subjects and also involves a lot of discussion.

My Math class is going well too, we’re approaching the midterm so I’m trying to step it up a notch and make sure that I really have a strong grasp on the information. I’m not all that worried though, the other tests and quizzes really stressed me out but now I know what to expect.

Psychology is going great, and I’m pretty confident in saying that it’s my favorite class. Professor Handley is an interesting guy, as are his lectures. We just found out Tuesday that we get to participate in a hypnotism experiment. I’m really looking forward to that. Hopefully I won’t bark like a dog or do something idiotic!

Choir is going well, we’re getting our pieces together well. We’ve recently busted out several Christmas songs that I love. One of the more interesting songs is called “Sleigh Bells,” it is similar to “Carol of the Bells” but it’s more dramatic. I’m really looking forward to our performances, I think we’re going to do great!

My last class, which ended Thursday is USAS. It was an easy, yet informative class. It’ll be nice to have some free time to get my work done early, instead of late at night...

Now that I have all of the “work” talk out of the way it’s time for the fun stuff! Tomorrow (Nov. 5) OSU Lima is sending busses full of students to the OSU vs. Illinois game to tailgate and have a good time! We also get to attend a Skull Session, which is like a large scale pep rally. I’m really excited, a few of my friends from class are going too so I don’t think it can get any better! I’m planning on taking my digital camera so if I get any good shots of the weekend I’ll post them so you can check them out!

Hopefully I’ll be in here more often now that I have a block of free time where my USAS class used to be.

And if you get a chance, add me on facebook!

Until next time,
Cody Dysert

Notes from Cheryl (10/26/2005)

Last week, Ohio State Lima hosted a college fair in the gymnasium. There were rows and rows of different colleges. Some of them I have never even heard of! As a student assistant, I helped out with the college fair. I blew up the balloons that you see in the picture and I also handed out a map that listed where each of the colleges' tables were located in the gym. I also made sure that the college representatives had water.

The college fair is very beneficial for high school students interested in going to college. I wish that I could have gone to this college fair when I was in high school. I could have talked to Ohio State, BGSU, Kent State, Bluffton, and many other colleges all in one night! And I could have picked up tons of information and even applications to these colleges. So make sure you don't miss next year's college fair!!

Updated Profile of CHERYL!!!

Name: Cheryl Kay Dircksen

(I am the one on the right in the photo)

BASIC INFORMATION:
Hometown: Minster, Ohio
Birthdate: April 6th, 1986
Age: 19
Year in College: Sophomore
Major: Family and Consumer Science Education
Clubs: Buckeye Agricultural Society, Buckeye Scholars. That was shortly after Nimps reminded us that "we are representing OSU, so don't do anything stupid."
4. Getting "lost" in the woods at Little Round Top in Gettysburg.
5. Playing Ultimate Frisbee with my honors history class instead of sitting through a lecture. Even Nimps, our professor, played! But watch out...he's a fast little man. Did you know that he was a gymnast???

I would love to talk to any prospective OSU students, so just feel free to leave a comment on the blog!

HAVE A FAB-U-LOUS DAY!!!

Notes from Cheryl (10/19/2005)

Well, this past weekend Ohio State played Michigan State...and I went to the game! The Director of Admissions, Beth Keehn, had two extra tickets so she graciously offered them to me. I decided to bring my foreign exchange friend, Silke, to the game because it would be an amazing experience for her. (She's from Switzerland, so she doesn't understand the whole football passion that we have here in Ohio. Haha)
Saturday morning I picked up Silke and drove to the OSU Lima campus to meet up with everyone that I was going to the game with. They included Beth (the Director of Admissions), Temple (an admission counselor), John Synder (Dean of OSU Lima), and some area high school admission counselors. We arrived on campus at 8:30AM and received a personal tour of Enarson Hall, which is the home of the Student Vistor Center. After Enarson Hall, we went to the President's Club brunch at the Ohio Union. The Ohio State cheerleaders did some cheers for us, Gene Smith (the athletic director) was the guest speaker, and the OSU Women's Glee Club sang Ohio State songs to us. Oh ya! And the food was EXTREMELY DELICIOUS! After filling up our tummies, we headed to the game. And of course....by the end of the game, my thoat was feelin' a bit scratchy from all my hard cheerin', especially during the 4th quarter when we came back and won! After the game, Silke and I met up with my friend Louie and we went out to eat and enjoyed life on the main campus.

Notes from Cheryl (10/12/2005)

It's OSU HOMECOMING WEEK so it's time to show your BUCKEYE SPIRIT!
I'm planning on going down to the main campus this weekend to attend the OSU Homecoming Parade and pep rally Friday night. To learn more about what's going on during homecoming week, go to http://homecoming.osu.edu/ .

Classes are going great. I have a sociology quiz and a chem quiz every week, but tomorrow I will have my first big sociology exam and then Friday I will have my big Chem test too. Monday's Chem lab was really neat. We were mixing solutions and stuff all on a computer generated program. Heck! The program wouldn't even let me screw up when I accidentally hit the wrong chemical. So I guess in the near future, there will be no excuse to blow up the chem lab unless you know how to blow up a computer. I can finally write about something school related because I'm officially a Buckeye and it's more fun than I ever imagined.

I'm taking 16 credit hours of class and so far they are pretty interesting! Although I have 8:00 classes every day (M - F), I think my schedule is going to be challenging and interesting!

This quarter I am taking Math 075, Psychology 100, English Composition 110, USAS, and Choir. All of my classes seem to be interesting at this point and I think I'm going to do well. Over all, I'm pretty happy with my schedule although I'm not very proud of my math course. But, it'll only help in the long run!

I'm very pleased with OSU - Lima so far, I've met several interesting people and I know there are plenty more out there that I will cross paths with in the near future!

Anyways, it's time for some homework and studying!

Take it easy!
Cody

Notes from Cheryl (10/3/05)

Woo-hoo! I'm a sophomore now! Haha. Well, it looks like my summer vacation is over and its time to hit the books again. This autumn quarter I am taking Chemistry 101, Sociology 101, and Human Nutrition 313. Chem and Sociology are my GEC courses and Human Nutrition 313 is required for my major (Family and Consumer Sciences Education). This is what I think of my classes so far:

Chemistry 101 --Little nervous about this one. Chemistry definitely wasn't my "cup of tea" in high school. But Dr. Moseley does an excellent job explaining the math stuff by using a powerpoint presentation and then helping us work through problems in the chem book. The chem book also has the answers to the problems in the back of the book for the odd numbers. I just got my first chem quiz back and I got a 100%! Yah!

Sociology 101 --Very different. Never took this in high school. So far we are just covering the basic boring information like "what is sociology" and "what is culture", so I don't have an opinion on this course yet.

Human Nutrition 313 --I think it's going to be a pretty cool course. It might even be my favorite. It's about Food and Culture. Each week we will cover a culture (ex: Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Mexican, etc.) We will take notes on the culture and then a group brings in food from that culture and shares it with the class and does a little presentation. (hey! free lunch!) I will have to bring in some Native American cuisine sometime this quarter. We also have to evaluate an ethnic restaurant in the lima area. I've been assigned to a Chinese restuarant.

Summer Notes (9/14)

Wow, this has been the fastest summer of my life... It seems like yesterday that I was worrying about how I would survive the two week span between all of my friends leaving for school and Ohio State starting. But now it’s September 14th, and in one week it’s my turn to start using my brain again!

I’m pretty excited, although I still haven’t totally wrapped up financial stuff (which might be a bad thing). Student loans are intimidating and confusing to me, hopefully I’m not the only one! I’m hoping to better understand them this year so I can maybe make it easier on somebody else too.

I’m really looking forward to starting classes though. I’ve tried to read up on my weak areas and prep myself so I’m ready to use some of the stuff I’ve worked on this summer.

Oh, another thing that I’m really looking forward to is the Dean’s Convocation and Picnic! I’m really excited to meet some people and play some games. I’ll be at the hillbilly golf game, even though cornhole is my specialty. To be honest with you, I don’t even know what hillbilly golf is but I’m ready for it.

Anyways, it’s getting awfully late so I better hit the sheets!

If you read this find me at the picnic! At this point I believe I’m the only guy working the hillbilly golf station so I shouldn’t be too hard to find!

Cody

Summer Notes (8/23)

Greetings everyone,

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to post on here and I blame my summer job! I’m a summer helper at Ada High School, and with the first day of school closing in we are trying to get the place finished up so that Ada’s youth can study in a sanitary environment! My job was really easy for the first couple weeks but lately I’ve been coming home worn out. Oh well, it’s good money and it ends Thursday!

Now that work is almost over I’m really getting anxious about classes. I’m starting to get my financial stuff sorted out and finalized and I’m starting to meet new people! I owe a thanks to Facebook.com for linking me with so many people, I just wish OSU – Lima could be represented so I could meet some people that I’m going to see around campus.

If anybody is interested in starting a regional campus group let me know and we’ll get that worked out. It’s be nice for those of us who are studying at the Lima campus to be able to find each other!

Anyways, I’m sorry to be so short but it’s Fricker’s night!

Cody

Summer Notes (7/23)

Hey everyone,

I’m bored and I have some down time so I figured I’d stop in and make a new post.

It’s nice to actually have some down time, I’ve done a lot of traveling lately. I went to Kentucky for a few days for a family reunion which was a good time. There really wasn’t much to do but we made the best of it.

For fun we traveled down the mountain to Hazard, Kentucky. Hazard is an interesting town, I thought it was actually more interesting than it is. I thought that the Dukes of Hazard stemmed from this town but after I saw the movie I realized that the ‘real’ Hazard is in Georgia. Oh well, while we searched for 2 hours to find a Walmart, and I searched for Daisy Duke but unfortunately didn’t have any luck.

We also took a hike into the wilderness to look at my great, great grandparent’s house. It was 4 miles up hill with a really small overgrown trail but we made it. I learned that I’m defiantly not an outdoorsman on that trip. I have never encountered so many bugs in my life!

My second trip was a little more luxurious and exciting. My girlfriend’s family and I made the 1,200 mile drive to Charleston, South Carolina. This was my third trip to Charleston but I still love that city. I honestly can’t get enough of it! The only thing that I don’t like about it is the fact that it is a 13 hour drive. There were 5 of us crammed into a Ford Focus. It was like a clown car but it was worth every second.

Between shopping and swimming we visited an aquarium and we got to tour Fort Sumter. I highly recommend both for anybody traveling to Charleston. I spent way too much money but that’s why I work so hard! I took a whole week off of work so that was another bonus to all of this traveling.

Anyways, that’s all for now!

Cody

About Cody

Hello everyone,

My name is Cody, and I will be attending the Ohio State University at Lima starting this coming fall. I’m fairly nervous about starting this crazy new chapter of my life but I’m anxious to get started and see if it’s really everything that it’s cracked up to be.

I’m attending Ohio State Lima because it is really close to home. I have lived in Ada, Ohio my entire life and I plan to spend a few more years here as well. Also, starting out at a regional campus saves money and I’m all about that!

I’m hoping that my posting here will be helpful to someone. I am an internet junkie so I will probably check this often. Feel free to leave comments, or email me if you have questions or concerns. I’m in the same boat as some of you so we can all share this experience.

I’m hoping to make this kind of interesting so that people will enjoy and actually read what I write. I just don’t want to write to myself!

Anyways, I must be going now because it's guitar time! I'll probably start working on my take-home history final today or tomorrow. And then on Tuesday, I'll take my Human Nutrition final and turn in my honors history final to Mr. Nimps.

Now that the school year is almost over, I will be working full-time at the daycare center in Anna, Ohio. I have a lot of responsibilities this summer. I am school aged summer program coordinator. I have lots of fun-filled activities for each week. During finals week, the kids will be learing about NASA, Neil Armstrong, and the planets. They will build bottle rockets and launch them at the park and then at the end of the week they will visit the Neil Armstong Air and Space Museum.

In July, I am having a farm animals week. Many guest speakers will come in such as the pork queen and the dairy princess, and the kids will also have the opportunity to make homemade ice cream and butter.

I have spent about a month working on my lesson plans, and the Ohio State University Extension Office for Auglaize County has helped me tremedously. They have tons of curriculum kits for all ages that you can borrow. They have a rockets away kit, fishy science kits, bicycle safety kit, gardening kit, butterfly kit, nutrition kit, disability awareness kit, and much more. The Ohio State University Extension Offices have lots of resources that teachers can use to help create their lesson plans and I recommend people to go check it out.

Notes From Cheryl (6/1/05)

Well, it's the last week of regularly scheduled classes. Next week is final exams! We didn't have lecture today in Honors History. Instead, our class went out to the baseball field to play ultimate frisbee. It was sooo much fun, and we learned never to underestimate the power of our professor. Mr. Nimps can run, and he was pretty good. He made a few interceptions so it's a good thing he was on my team.

Our history class has done a lot of bonding (gettysburg trip and ultimate frisbee) and many friendships were made. It is my favorite class thus far. It's sad to realize that we only have one more day of class left because we all enjoy it soo much.

By the way, my team won. 25-23.

Notes from Cheryl (5/30/05)

WoW! The weekend went by soooo fast, yet it was soooo fun! I left Friday morning from the Lima campus and took a 10-hr van ride to Gettysburg. Matt and I had a contest to see who could stay up the longest. I won! Once we arrived at the hotel, we decided to go explore the town, so a couple of us students took off down the street. I was busy talking to the people behind me, so I didn’t see the "no parking" sign and WHAM! My head hit the pole and I fell. Yep…I definitely did a good job representing Ohio State Lima! Haha. After dinner, a few of us hung out at the indoor pool and hot tub. Later, Ann and I went for a walk around the hotel and ending up getting caught in the middle of an ice cube war amongst the little soccer boys staying at our hotel!

On Saturday morning, we headed to the museum around 10:00AM. We watched the electric map presentation at 10:30AM and then started our battlefield tour at 11:00AM. Our guide was very thorough and the tour ended up lasting 3 hours! At 2:00PM, we grabbed lunch and then met back at the hotel at 3:00PM. We then went back to the battlefield to visit Devil’s Den and Little Round Top. I was being a little dare-devilish at Devil’s Den by attempting to climb down a steep rock. Mr. Nimps got a little worried, but I made it all the way down without getting dirty or injured. Ha! After spending time at Devil’s Den, we went up to Little Round Top. Instead of driving up there, Ann, Amy, Cody, Jen, and I hiked through the woods to get there. At 5:30PM, a few of us went to St. Xavier’s Catholic mass. After church we picked up some old fashioned ice cream on our way back to the hotel. While the faculty went to Dobbins to celebrate Dr. Gilmore’s birthday, we students went out to eat and then played cards out by the pool with our cases of Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper. The people over 21 sat on the balcony and laughed at us, but we didn’t care. We had a grand ol’ time!. We did some pretty crazy things though. For example, Matt jumped into the pool, clothes and all. Haha.

Sunday morning we packed up and left Getttyburg at 9:00AM and headed back to Ohio. We made a pit stop in Maryland to see the Sideling Hills, which was quite interesting. For the remainder of the ride home, everyone in my van was either sleeping or reading books while Mr. Nimps and I listened to the Reds vs the Pirates baseball game on the radio.

Throughout Honors History 152, I usually just sit in class and take notes and I rarely ever talk. The most Mr. Nimps can get out of me is a few words. After our 10 hour bus ride to Gettysburg, Mr. Nimps asked his wife, Dr. Gilmore, if she has ever met me before because he claims that he has just met me today too. Haha. Mr. Nimps learned a lot about me over the course of the weekend, so his opinions about me have definitely changed.

Well, I have lots to do today. I need to study pyschology, wirte two essays, and make it to a couple graduation parties!

Notes from Cheryl (5/26/05)

TOMORROW I LEAVE FOR GETTYSBURG!!

My honors history class is going to Gettysburg for Memorial Day Weekend, and I can't wait. There a lot of really cool people going on the trip, so it'll be a blast! Since it will be a 10 hour bus ride, I will most likely work on my course works that are due at the end of the quarter and also my lessons plans for the school age program at the daycare center this summer. I could hardly concentrate in Human Nutrition because all I could hear was the band playing out in the yard. After class, I went outside to where all the action was. Wild 93.9 was out in the yard, different clubs were selling different things, a Red Bull truck was out there giving out free drinks. I met up with some friends and we played corn toss and monkey bar golf and watched Matt and Jerod in the chicken wing eating contest. They lost, but they didn't care. They got a free lunch! Haha.

Later this evening, I went to visit my Grandpa's sister, Mary Ann, to interview her for my Oral History project for my Honors History class. She had some really interesting stories to tell so I think I'll have a good project to turn in. She gave me some really cool pictures.

Notes from Cheryl (5/14/05)

Today was ESP orientation for Autumn Quarter. I had to be at campus by 6:30AM, so it was a looong day. My responsibilities included escorting people to their Spanish and Math Placement Tests, getting ice for the drinks, giving the students and their guests a tour of the campus, and helping students schedule their classes. I really enjoyed the orientation. I got to meet some really cool imcoming freshmen, and I hope I get to know them better in the fall. I also saw one Minster person there, so I got to get ahold of him sometime to arrange car pooling for the autumn quarter since these gas prices are a pain right now.

Notes from Cheryl (5/7/05)

Well, Thursday I took a 8AM midterm in Psychology 100. I studied really hard for it, so hopefully I did pretty good on it. After my Human Nutrition class, I went out to lunch with Daniel. He told me all about his trip to Chicago for art and other miscellaneous things. We could have sat in Taco Bell all afternoon, but we both had to get back to campus for our 1:30 class. After my 1:30 class (Honors History), I hurried to work at the Little Explorer's Discovery Center in Anna, Ohio. (It's a daycare.) After work, I went straight to my Junior Fair Board meeting. After the meeting, I hung out with my friends who are now home from college for the summer and we made plans for the weekend.

On Fridays I don't have classes, so I worked from 9AM to 6PM at the daycare center. Right now I am the 2 year old teacher. The kids were actually pretty good that day. It only took about 15-20 minutes to get 14 toddlers to sleep for naptime. That's a record! Usually it takes about an hour. In the afternoon, I took the toddlers outside since it was really nice and they got to drive tractors, cars, and tricycles up and down the sidewalk. They looked so cute in their little vehicles, especially with their little helmets on too.

Notes from Cheryl (5/03/05)

This past Sunday, May 1st, I went down to main campus to attend the College of Human Ecology "Celebration of Excellence" Banquet at the Ohio Union ballrooms. I got to sit with the other girls in my major and I got a chance to get to know them better. I was also able to talk to Dr. Dohner, the professor for my major. During the banquet, I received the Florence M. Rimoldi Scholarship for FCS Education majors.
