I am about 1/3 of the way through winter quarter. (woo-hoo!) Theatre 100 is going great. We've been reading plays and discussing theatre concepts. Today in class we watched 3 different segments of a scene from Hamlet to show how playwrighters make their adaptations of the same play.
Last week, my HDFS class was interesting. Tuesday, we had a guest speaker come in to talk to us about diversity and how us future educators can deal with these differences. On Thursday, we had another guest speaker. This speaker was from the health department and talked to us about sex.
Classical mythology is very interesting. I learned about how Father Sky and Mother Earth mated. We also learned about the tales of Zeus and his siblings who are the Olympians. And last week we learned about Oedipus and how he killed his father and married his mother.
This weekend, I went down to Columbus to look for apartments. I ran across some pretty shady areas. Places that were unclean and looked like they were going to fall apart. Some of the neighborhoods were a little creepy too. In the end, I kind of wished that I could just stay at home and finish my major in Lima. I would definitely feel safer here! Unfortunately, I have a major that can not be completed at Lima. (Darn!)
Well, I need to head off to my mythology class....I wonder what tale I will hear today!

Notes from CHERYL!
On Tuesday, the Lima campus had a Martin Luther King Jr. presentation in the theatre. Bryan Barrows presented "Who is MLK?" It was a pretty good one man show. In the show, he portrays an old man who is appalled to learn that his grandson didn't know who MLK was, so he decided to tell his grandson all about the civil rights movement in the '60s. He discussed the Jim Crow Laws, Rosa Parks, the Montgomery bus boycott, MLK's "I have a Dream" speech, and more. To sum it all up, it was pretty good narrative history lecture. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the end of the show because I had to get to my mythology class.

Notes from Cheryl

Oh wow....I haven't blogged in a month! Sorry! Haha.
Today we started winter quarter. I'm taking classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then working at the daycare on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I'm taking Theatre 100, Classical Mythology 222, and HDFS 360. Cody is in my theatre class! Hehe. I'll let you know what I think of my courses in a later blog.
Winter break went by soo fast! Let's see...I worked full-time at the daycare, finished my duties as the Auglaize County Junior Fair Board President, went to x-mas parties, birthday parties, movie nights, bowling nights, new year's eve parties, and of course a fiesta bowl party! Watching the Buckeyes win on a 24 x 26 foot screen in the loft of a barn is pretty sweet.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and I also hope that you have a great 2006 year!
